DCGFFL Highlights for 2022
DCGFFL was voted the Best Amateur Sports League in the Washington Blade’s Best of LGBTQ DC 2022 awards!
League Achievements
- Recruited new team leaders with 8 first-time captains and 8 first-time quarterbacks
- Trained a host of new referees, including 3 new head refs
- Grew Recreation League participation to include 6 teams for Season 23
- Created the Forever Family program to provide an option for supporters and retired players to participate more formally as social members of the league
Travel Program Achievements
- The DC Commanders brought home the Open B2 Division championship from Pride Bowl
- Sunshine Cup XI featured an all-DC Open A division final with the DC Assassins besting the DC Filibusters for the championship trophy
- For the first time ever, DCGFFL fielded two Women’s+ Division teams at a travel tournament (Pride Bowl)
- The DC Space Force competed at Gay Bowl XXII in Hawaii
Community Achievements
- DCGFFL member and incoming NGFFL Commissioner, Joel Horton, announced a pick at the NFL Draft
- Marched in the Capital Pride Parade with the Washington Commanders
- Partnered with Team DC and the Washington Commanders to make this year’s Pride Night OUT football game bigger and better
- Partnered with our the Greater Philadelphia Flag Football League to host the largest ever DCGFFL Beach Bowl tournament in Rehoboth Beach, DE
